Architecture - Australia
NORTH QUEENSLAND
The frames below try to highlight the warm, beautiful and eclectic home of our dear friend Phoebe. It is in Clifton Beach which is a suburb about 22 kilometres north of Cairns. Clifton Beach is a quiet and unspoilt "local’s beach" just by Palm Cove, and is connected directly by a walking and cycling track. It is located in the Djabugay (Tjapukai) traditional Aboriginal country.
These photos attempt to capture the broad and diverse elements that have gotten embedded into the home and garden through Phoebe's lived-in family experiences, while also reflecting the influences of her wide travels across Australia and globally.
We were privileged to spend a leisurely 11 days in July soaking up the sub-tropical climate - the weather was most welcome as we came from Ipswich where temperatures reach the low single digits (°C). However, the nippy breeze did make a swimming pool dip borderline-challenging unless the sun was out!
Living in this home was a rich journey through so many cultures ranging across South and South East Asia, Europe, and across Australia, all blended together tastefully. The home exuded the Phoebe's uncontrived warmth and irreverent humor, weaved seamlessly into her deep and varied life-experiences.
The photos are but a glimpse into our experience vacationing in this amazing place.
Thank you, Phoebe!
