Capturing moments and creating memories

Hi!  I have been fascinated by photographs from a young age because of the way they could 'freeze' a moment in time, while evoking a range of feelings each time you looked at them. Later I was to learn about angles, framing, and key technical aspects of of photo-taking. But at its core are the feelings that are evoked by seeing something and trying to 'transport' such feelings into an evocative and authentic photograph. And often, the feelings evoked in others who see my picture are different from mine, as feelings are inextricably intertwined with our own life journey and related life experiences. This is the beauty of photographs.

I've been taking photographs for over 20 years as one of my hobbies during my work-career. My professional life took me to over 25 countries across 6 continents, visiting many countries several times. Through my travels I discovered the fascinating richness of different cultures, peoples, landscapes and cities.

Yet, it's been only in the past two years that I have spent more leisurely time exploring the world through my lenses. It's shown me new perspectives of the world we live in and the humans we are fortunate to share it with.

This continuing photo-journey is also helping me to anchor my post-retirement chapter of life by being able to 'see, touch and smell' the beauty of our world and people we get to meet. This may sound strange but yes, through a camera lens I've discovered that a multi-sensory experience is indeed possible! But let me hit the pause button on that ... as it is still, for me, a journey that is in the formative stage of being defined. This element of my blurb will get updated time and time again.

This is an ongoing collection of my photographs and I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoyed shooting these frames. And do re-visit  this website as my journey continues!

Acknowledgements

Learning is, as they say, a journey and I am grateful for all those who have taught, guided and helped me along the way.

In my home country of Singapore, I'd like to thank Sam for being always ready to help and advice on all things to do with photography. He also guided me through building up my suite of lenses and accessories, while not hesitating to keep me disciplined in spending wisely.

More recently I followed classes by Pawel Lipsky (https://www.pawel-lipski.com/) and learnt the amazing possibilities with natural light photography. Thank you, Pawel!

In Queensland, I am grateful for two amazing friends, Rob & Camillo, for taking me around Australia's second largest State and enabling me to photograph the vast beauty of the countryside. Rob inspired me with his deep insights into Queensland in particular, during the many  long road trips he took me on. His generosity with his time and knowledge of  the history of the locales  we visited helped me appreciate the beauty of the land and people. Camillo's innate curiosity about far-flung places were a revealing discovery for me into the raw beauty of the Gold Coast hinterland.

The list will grow - as will my gratitude - to folks like the above-mentioned.

And a special thanks to some extraordinary folks in my life: our son Ryan and daughter Sharon for challenging me to push boundaries for views through my lenses; Ruky for her unfailing encouragement; and last but not least my wonderful wife Dilky, who continues to support and encourage me always as I explore paths unknown through my lenses!
